Holy Smokes We Are Open!!!

Whew! These last few weeks have been a whirlwind as we’ve set up our beautiful new space inside Roots Zero Waste Market! Between last-minute runs to Home Depot, filling hundreds of jars with fragrant herbs, and pricing tinctures, supplements, syrups, and salves, Carolyn, Kelsey, and Nicole have been burning the candles at both ends! We had an amazing turnout at our soft opening during the Experience Garden City event on August 31, and now we are restocking and fine-tuning in preparation for our GRAND OPENING on Sept 21! We will have one of our Vervain labeled teas available for sampling, our FIRST custom-made Idaho Kombucha blend flowing (“Holy Rose”, a blend of White Tea, Holy Basil, Rose Petals, and Lemon Balm), and lots of tasters/samples/sniffs to acquaint you with our wares.

Grand Opening, Flower Smelling, and Cookie Tasting.

Speaking of tasting: our first customers at the Saturday Sept 21 grand opening will be lucky enough to nibble an herbal cookie by the wondrous baking sprite Krista Bakes! Her vegan Swedish butter cookies with Pear/Chamomile compote and Lavender shortbread cookies are bite-sized and luscious and will be gobbled up fast!

Also, make sure to stop and smell the Vervain (and dahlias, zinnias, and hops) that have been filling our shop since The Outdoor Florist has been gracing us with her gorgeous bouquets! Part of the Slow Flower movement, Melissa Frazier grows cut flowers on her one-acre urban farm in Boise. She provides flowers for businesses, restaurants, special orders, events, and weddings, and also has a stand in front of her home. Her no-waste approach to naturally grown, never sprayed flowers provides happiness and wellness. What is left over from the plants is fed to her goats and chickens and then returned to the earth!

Sleep Elixers & Inducers.

In the midst of all of the opening festivities, the mamas of The Vervain Collective shuffled their kiddos back to school, which means getting back into a routine and regular sleep hygiene. Those early mornings and increased responsibilities can be taxing on little noggins, especially when it still seems like summer outside. To help ease evenings into peaceful bedtimes, try some of our gentle and effective sleep elixirs and inducers.

  • Our “Little Luna” tea is formulated by our amazing shop steward Erika Knipe. It’s a bedtime blend of gentle and delicious calming herbs – Lemon Verbena, Oatstraw, Lavender, Rosemary, and Rosehips.
  • Moon Drops are combination homeopathic lozenges that just help…bring it on down. Dr. Pierce swears by them for busy minds and troubled times.
  • Restful Sleep tincture by Western Botanicals is available by the ounce! Bring your own tincture bottle, or use one of ours. Wild Lettuce flowering herb, Hops flower, Passionflower herb, Valerian root, California Poppy flowering herb, and Yellow Jasmine root will help lull you to sleep.
  • The lavender and chamomile-infused Sleep Spray by Hen and Hare Microfarm with Apis was sold out, but we have it back in stock just in time for our Grand Opening! Dr. Pierce makes sure our customers are never without their Magnesium, be it in topical, capsule, or liquid form!
  • DIY sleep remedies: Are you someone who likes to make your own concoctions, gifts, and remedies? We carry raw ingredients to make your own soothing bath salts, oils, teas, and more! We stock dried herbs and powders, bulk oils and salts, jars and bottles, and tools and books so you can explore your inner herbalist. If you don’t see something you need, please let us know!
We Love Chamomile!

A classic herb best known as a calming tea for poor, traumatized Peter Rabbit, Matricaria chamomilla is a mild sedative traditionally used to calm nerves and reduce anxiety, and to prevent nightmares, insomnia and other sleep problems.

Combined with Magnesium-rich Epsom Salts and soothing Floracopia Chamomile essential oil, this Chamomile Bath Salt recipe is easy to make, and even easier to use.

CHAMOMILE BATH SALTS RECIPE
INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups Epsom salts
  • 2 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers
  • 5 drops chamomile essential oil

DIRECTIONS:

Use a mortar and pestle to grind the chamomile.  It doesn’t need to be completely powdered, but it does need to be fairly fine so you don’t clog your drain.

Combine the Epsom salts, dried chamomile, and chamomile essential oil in a glass bowl.  Stir well and store in a glass jar until ready to use or give.
If you miss out on the Krista Bakes Chamomile cookies on Grand Opening day, try your hand at these Ginger Chamomile Bedtime Cookies from the Commonwealth Center for Holistic Herbalism.

We really hope to see you at our Grand Opening and hope you enjoy our space! It’s wonderful in here, and our customers make it even more so! Mention this newsletter in the shop and we’ll give you a 20% discount on bulk chamomile!

To your joy and health,

From all of us @
